Worthing Museum presents the Autumn Lecture Series.

Our hugely popular lecture series returns on Thursday evenings this October to December.

An intimate season of talks with our Archaeology Curator James Sainsbury and guest speakers. Explore a wide range of subjects from Sussex in the Stone and Bronze ages, Worthing at War 1939-1945 and Highdown & Saxon Sussex. This year due to high demand we have the return of A Victorian Naval Odyssey: John Palmer and his unique log book revealed, as well as The Story of Cissbury Ring. Plus brand new talks on topics such as Roman Worthing & Surrounds and Harry Peulevé: Worthing’s War-time Spy.

Worthing at War 1939-1945

Sussex was on the frontline in 1940 – if the RAF had failed and the Wehrmacht had invaded the area would have been of major strategic importance to both sides. We will look at the defences themselves – pillboxes, anti-tank ditches and heavy guns sited on the Downs, along with aerial photographs taken by the Luftwaffe whilst planning their invasion. Eye-witness accounts and photographs of the period will form a part of this talk, and there will be a large selection of objects from the time available for handling afterwards.

Ticket price includes a glass of wine or tea/coffee.

Members pre-sale Tuesday 2 August, 10am
General on-sale Friday 5 August, 10am
