Phil Kelsall returns to Worthing playing an array of great music from the Wurlitzer!

Phil has been principal organist at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom since 1977. He tours the UK and internationally from October to May each year when he starts back at the Tower Ballroom for the summer season. He has recived numerous awards including an MBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to music.

In 1987 Phil Kelsall became the first British theatre organist to release an album on CD. Now over 40 CD’s have been released of Phil playing either the Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer or electronic instruments, and it has been estimated that he has more recordings available than any other organist in the world.

The concert will include a wide variety of music from across the decades performed on the magnificent Worthing Wurlitzer. Songs from the shows, dance music, swing, classical and novelty numbers go together to make for a satisfying afternoon of easy listening.

The Assembly Hall’s Wurlitzer Theatre organ is one of Worthing’s hidden treasures. WIth over 2000 pipes playing the theatre organ is a complex task, but in the hands of the top artists playing the Wurlitzer this year you will hear the full majesty of this wonderful instrument.

The splendid acoustics of the Assembly Hall complement the bright sounds from the pipes and tuned percussion instruments within the organ.
