About Barry Lyndon

Stanley Kubrick's epic Oscar-winning drama

An Irish rogue wins the heart of a rich widow and assumes her dead husband's aristocratic position in 18th-century England.

Our thoughts
A bit of an outlier in Stanley Kubrick's filmography. It isn't discussed as much as 2001 or The Shining, but remains a marvel of film-making with award-winning cinematography and music. Famed for it's exclusive use of natural light and other technicalities - it might also be Kubrick's most heartfelt and emotional film.

★★★★★ The expressive authority of Kubrick’s direction is breathtaking. Total Film
★★★★★ An intimate epic of utter lucidity and command. The Guardian
★★★★★ Could be considered Kubrick’s masterpiece. Village Voice
