Part of our 'Detective Season'. Jack Nicholson stars in this noir classic

To coincide with our theatre production of Sherlock Holmes: Valley of Fear, we wanted to screen some classic detective movies. A genre that has been popular since the 1930s all the way up to present day and has generated some of the all-time greats.

About the film
Oscar-winner for best screenplay. When Los Angeles private eye J.J. "Jake" Gittes is hired by Evelyn Mulwray to investigate her husband's activities, he believes it's a routine infidelity case. Jake's investigation soon becomes anything but routine when he meets the real Mrs. Mulwray and realizes he was hired by an imposter. Mr. Mulwray's sudden death sets Gittes on a tangled trail of corruption, deceit and sinister family secrets as Evelyn's father becomes a suspect in the case.
