An intimate season of talks with our Archaeology Curator James Sainsbury and a guest speaker. Explore a wide range of subjects from Worthing in the Neolithic, the stories of Cissbury, Chanctonbury Ring and Highdown, through to the Norman Conquest and Worthing in the Great War. This year social historian Beth Collard will be giving a brand new lecture on the Pioneering Women of Worthing, as well as her fascinating talk on Harry Peuleve, a Worthing-born SOE agent active in Europe during World War II.
About the talk
The First World War affected all who lived through those terrible years and the people of Worthing were no different. This talk will look at the war's military and social aspects, covering soldiers' training on the local Downs, the battles fought by the Royal Sussex Regiment and the problems on the Home Front. There will be an extensive object-handling session after this lecture.
Ticket price includes a glass of wine or tea/coffee.
