Part of a series of talks about Influential Women of the twentieth century.

Polish born Marie Curie is an icon in the world of modern science. She discovered polonium and radium, is responsible for the use of radiation in medicine and our understanding of radioactivity.

At a time when women were rarely credited for their achievements, she was awarded not one but two Nobel Prizes and not in one but in two fields; physics and chemistry. Despite a politically unstable childhood and financial hardship throughout her life she battled on to achieve her goals.

Would you like to learn more about the life of this remarkable woman and about the struggles life presented her?

Monika Lind is a retired university lecturer of Culture and Humanities Studies with a passion to continue to share her eclectic interests in and knowledge of all things cultural with you.
