Experience the beautiful world of Powell & Pressburger

Dive into the cinematic universe of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger whose creative partnership in the 1940s created some of the most stylistically ambitious, thematically rich, subversive, and sensual British films ever made.

About the film
Under the authoritarian rule of charismatic ballet impressario Boris Lermontov, his proteges realize the full promise of their talents, but at a price - utter devotion to their art and complete loyalty to Lermontov himself. Young ballerina Victoria Page is torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a top dancer.

Q&A with Sight and Sound's Pamela Hutchinson
Pamela Hutchinson is a writer and film critic who contributes regularly to Sight and Sound and The Guardian. She is also the author of the BFI Film Classic book on Pandora's Box, and an upcoming book on The Red Shoes, released in October 2023. We are delighted to welcome her to the Connaught to offer insight into this classic film and discuss it's impact on filmmaking.
