The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.
Our thoughts
We saw this at London Film Festival last year. Jonathan Glazer is a singular filmmaker who hasn't made a lot of films but they are all critical successes. Particularly Under The Skin, which frequently tops polls of the best films of the last 20 years. This study of the people behind the workings of Auschwitz concentration camp is essential but often disturbing viewing - unimaginable to todays mind. It's unsettling as the unseen horrors weigh heavy on your mind throughout.
