Our thoughts
A smash-hit in it's home country of Italy, breaking into the all-time top ten and beating out Roberto Benigni's Life Is Beautiful. The film was the biggest box office hit of 2023 beating both Barbie, Oppenheimer etc to the crown. The film manages to pull off a risky tone - dealing with domestic violence, but also fantasy, escapism and comedy. It's also a crowd pleaser, winning the Audience Award at Rome Film Festival.
★★★★ Storytelling with terrific confidence and panache The Guardian
★★★★ This is a thoughtful, emotionally satisfying, immensely entertaining one-off Financial Times
★★★★ A sentimental tale of suffering and self-sacrifice but Cortellesi executes it with style Screen Daily
