About Autumn Lecture Series: Worthing and the Second World War

Sussex was on the frontline in 1940 – if the RAF had failed and the Wehrmacht had invaded the area would have been of major strategic importance to both sides.  We will look at the defences themselves – pillboxes, anti-tank ditches and heavy guns sited on the Downs, along with aerial photographs taken by the Luftwaffe whilst planning their invasion.  Eye-witness accounts and photographs of the period will form a part of this talk
