About Autumn Lectures: Sussex & the Norman Conquest

We all know that William the Conqueror beat King Harold at Hastings - but what happened in Sussex afterwards? This talk will look at the huge changes wrought upon the county by the incoming Normans - the construction of castles, the growth of towns and the beginnings of modern England.

A full programme of eight talks delivered by our curator, James Sainsbury, including four brand new lectures. These talks cover everything from the Prehistoric archaeology of Worthing and the wider area, to the dawn of photography and the development of the town in the 19th and 20th centuries.
