About Talks Revisited: Emmeline Pankhurst with Monika Lind

The leader who transformed women’s rights in Britain

Join Monika Lind, retired university lecturer in Culture and Humanities Studies, for an insightful talk exploring the life and legacy of Emmeline Pankhurst, one of the most influential figures in the fight for women’s suffrage in the UK.

Today, the right for women to vote is often taken for granted, but it was hard won through decades of activism and determination. Born into a politically active family, Pankhurst became a leading force in the suffrage movement in the late 19th century. When she was denied entry into political structures as a woman, she founded the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU).

This talk examines Pankhurst’s life, her leadership during often difficult and controversial campaigns, and the impact of her work in transforming women’s rights. It also considers how her legacy continued through those who followed in her footsteps.

Ideal for those who missed the talk previously, or anyone interested in British history, politics and women’s rights, this session offers a deeper understanding of a remarkable and influential leader.
