About Walking With The Crow

Shona Macdonald invites viewers into a mythical dark-forest journey, populated by ghost trees, animal guides, and imps of the mind, in this exhibition of recent works.

A neurodivergent artist working through personal experience, her work explores hidden inner struggles using the visual language of the dark fairytale. The work seeks to elucidate the complex and transformative experience of navigating challenging psychological terrain.

Working across a range of media, she revisits her subjects through both real and imagined processes, creating a dreamlike world in which a recurring protagonist encounters symbolic animal presences that shape experiences of trauma, recovery, and growth. Rather than presenting a fixed linear narrative, the works unfold as a series of moments and encounters that mark significant points within an inner journey. By turns surreal, unsettling, and poignant, the exhibition acknowledges darkness without remaining within it, holding open the possibility of transformation, resilience, and light.
