Why is the Museum & Art Gallery temporarily closing?
The museum will be closed to facilitate its connection to the Worthing Heat Network, a sustainable energy project that aims to reduce carbon emissions and support Worthing’s Climate Neutral Strategy.
When will the museum be closed?
It will be closed from Sunday 2 March - Winter 2025.
What is the Worthing Heat Network?
It is a district heating system that captures unused heat from local sources and distributes it to homes and businesses through underground pipes. This project is part of Worthing Borough Council’s efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
What can I do during the closure?
While the museum is closed, you can follow our blog and social media for engaging stories about its collections, behind-the-scenes updates, and previews of future exhibitions.
How can I stay updated?
WTM’s website, blog, and social media channels will post updates on the project and the museum's activities.
What safety measures will be in place during construction?
Hemiko prioritises the safety of residents and workers. Safety fencing will be installed around the construction site, and thorough health and safety assessments will be conducted throughout the project.
What about bus stops and parking during the construction?
Bus stops on High Street will be temporarily suspended, and a partial bus diversion will be in place. Some parking bays on Farncomb Road will also be suspended to accommodate the bus diversion. The High Street multi-storey and surface car parks will remain accessible, with temporary road plates installed over
Will there be closures to the museum whilst connecting?
Yes, the museum will be temporarily closed from 2 March 2025 to Winter 2025 to ensure construction and safety measures can proceed effectively.
Is this part of the “Let The Light In” project?
No, this closure is solely to connect the museum to the Worthing Heat Network. It is unrelated to the “Let The Light In” redevelopment initiative or other projects.
How will this benefit the museum and the community?
The connection will significantly reduce the museum’s carbon footprint, aligning with sustainability goals and ensuring the building’s long-term energy efficiency. Additionally, the project brings economic and environmental benefits to Worthing, including job creation and reduced CO² emissions.
