Worthing Symphony Orchestra and Worthing Theatres and Museum are proud to be celebrating 100 years of WSO & WTM. A century of heritage in the vibrant cultural centre of Worthing.
Worthing Symphony Orchestra’s musical life began on Worthing Pier in 1874 as a 9-piece orchestra. A full-time municipal orchestra formed in 1926, becoming Worthing Symphony Orchestra and moving to the Assembly Hall in 1935. Despite wartime disruption, it endured. WSO has attracted some of the world’s best soloists such as Nicola Benedetti, Jess Gillam and Johan Dalene and Julian Lloyd Webber.
With some of the finest acoustics in Europe and the best players in the country, Worthing Symphony Orchestra and Assembly Hall submerge you in world of sound and colour, allowing you to escape the everyday.
Conductor John Gibbons opens each performance with his unique introductions, setting the scene and letting your imagination wander through history, fiction, and new worlds.
The beautiful Art-Deco style hall, opened in 1933, seats just under 1,000 people and it boasts superb acoustics, a sprung dance floor, a steinway piano, and one of Europe’s largest Wurlitzers. Home to Worthing Symphony Orchestra, it has hosted BBC Radio 2 concerts, Pierre Boulez’s debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and over 80 Worthing Symphony Orchestra concert seasons.
