Subtitled and Captioned Performances

We screen subtitled films at least every Monday evening at the Connaught Cinema, and additional subtitled screenings are held during the school holidays.

Audio Description and Hearing Assistance

Audio Description

Films with Audio Description can be accessed using the Mobile Connect app.

Hearing Assistance

Films and live shows can be amplified through a headset or directly through your hearing aids by using our Mobile Connect app.

Unfortunately, there is currently no hearing assistance system available at the Assembly Hall.

Mobile Connect app

If you have either an iPhone/iPod/iPad or an Android smartphone, you can download the FREE Sennheiser Mobile Connect App from the App Store.

Bring your fully charged device with the latest version of the app installed and your headphones to use at the venue.

If you do not have your device, our venues have a limited number of devices and headphones available for use.

If you would like to speak to a member of our team about this service, please contact access@wtm.uk

BSL Signed Performance

British Sign Language interpreted performances for our d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers.

Relaxed Performances

Autism Friendly Screenings & Performances

For film screenings, the sound levels are lowered, the lights are kept at a low level, and no adverts or trailers are shown.

In addition to a live performance, the actors come on stage to introduce themselves and explain a bit about their characters before the performance begins.

Customers can make noise and move around as needed, and a reduced number of seats are sold to allow more space for customers.

Dementia Friendly screenings & performances

These screenings will feature reduced sound levels and low-level lighting, and there will be no advertisements before the feature begins. Our staff are Dementia Friends and have attended an awareness information session.

WatchWord

Watchword is an 'always-on' closed-captioning accessibility system designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing cinemagoers

It works by broadcasting closed captions, provided with a movie, over Wi-Fi to augmented reality glasses. These glasses can be worn over prescription glasses and around cochlear implants. It allows audiences to choose which films to attend based on their title, rather than a specific time slot.

While many films display open captions on the screen, WatchWord offers a discreet closed-captioning system, ensuring that only those wearing the glasses can see the captions. Unlike other forms of closed captioning, the use of augmented reality glasses provides users with a superior line-of-sight viewing experience, so there’s no need to look away from the screen.
