Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra

Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra is described as a “jewel in the crown” of Worthing's cultural life and the wider West Sussex region, and is among the UK's finest regional orchestras of its kind.  With a full complement of over 80 musicians, it proudly performs a wide repertoire of established classics, large-scale Romantic and 20th-century orchestral showpieces, hidden gems, and cutting-edge new music.  All this to professional-level standards, in the superb acoustics of Worthing’s Grade II-listed Art Deco Assembly Hall, under the baton of its internationally acclaimed Music Director, Dominic Grier.

The orchestra is also firmly rooted within the local community, collaborating frequently with other local groups and cultural organisations for educational and other performances. These have included children’s concerts, a special performance workshop at Highdown Gardens, a spectacular outdoor concert of film music for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, biennial performances at the Steyning Festival, and large-scale choral concerts with Brighton16, The Angmering Chorale, the Worthing Choral Society and The Boundstone Chorus.

In addition to providing a valuable platform for young soloists at the start of their careers alongside distinguished artists of international repute, the WPO also offers opportunities and support for emerging composers and conductors through its Composer-in-Residence and Student Conductor schemes. It also links with the University of Surrey’s flagship Tonmeister course, giving future sound engineers the chance to record large-scale orchestral performances on location.

Known for a vibrant, full and powerful orchestral sound, the WPO presents at least six concerts per year at affordable prices, providing seasoned classical music devotees and first-time audience members with virtuoso and committed performances in Worthing’s vibrant local cultural scene.
