About Summer Walks 2026 - Chanctonbury Ring

Join Worthing Museum archaeologist James Sainsbury for a guided walk exploring one of Sussex’s most iconic and mysterious landmarks.

Perhaps the most famous hilltop site in Sussex, Chanctonbury Ring has fascinated locals and visitors for centuries. Set high on the South Downs, this remarkable landscape is rich in archaeology, folklore and breathtaking views. During the walk, James will uncover the stories behind the site’s prehistoric cross-ridge dykes, ancient burial mounds and the famous ring of trees that crowns the hill.

Beneath the surface lies an extraordinary archaeological story, including not one but two Roman temples, making Chanctonbury Ring one of the most significant historic sites in the region.

Part of our Summer Archaeology Walk Programme, this walk is ideal for anyone interested in archaeology, local history and the Sussex landscape.
