About Windmills and Spinners

Create, learn and play with spinning toys

Get hands-on with this fun and creative Windmills and Spinners workshop, where children can design and make their own colourful spinning toys using a variety of paper and card materials.

Across both sessions, participants will explore how spinning works while creating windmills and decorative spinners to take home. This engaging activity combines craft, creativity and simple science, making it perfect for young makers.

Windmills and Spinners (Ages 5–7)

A fun introduction to making spinning toys

This session is designed especially for younger children, offering a playful introduction to crafting simple windmills and spinners on a stick. Participants will enjoy experimenting with colours and shapes while developing fine motor skills and creativity.

A relaxed and enjoyable session where children can make and decorate their own spinning toys to take home and show family and friends.


Windmills and Spinners (Ages 7–11)

Explore creativity, design and how things spin

This session builds on creative skills, giving older children the chance to experiment with different techniques, including origami spinners and more detailed designs.

Participants will also discover how spinning connects to real-world examples, including historic windmills and modern wind farms, adding an educational element to the creative process.

Children will leave with a collection of decorated spinning toys and a deeper understanding of how they work.
